Continuing Medical Education (CME)
CME opportunities
This document contains a list of CME approved events. You can ask for a course or event not listed here to be approved for CME by contacting dpd@rnzcuc.org.nz – please provide as many details as possible to speed the approvals process. CME providers can ask for their event to be endorsed and promoted – visit this page on the website.
Claiming points
Unless otherwise stated, claim 1 point per hour for content that is directly related to urgent care, up to a maximum of:
- 6 points for a full day event
- 4 points for a half-day event
- 3 points for an evening event.
When to claim
Some items cannot be claimed when completed as part of the training programme, or otherwise-required CPD. Table 1 lists the activities that count as CME only when completed in addition to compulsory requirements1. Table 2 lists activities that do not have that restriction.

Note:
1. Fellows and registrars cannot claim for items completed as part of CPD requirements stipulated elsewhere. Registrars cannot claim for online UCC completion, attendance at UCPEX, specialist clinics, or courses and university papers they are required to complete as part of the training programme.

Use ePortfolio to maintain a record of your CME activities. Remember to load supporting documentation. We recommend keeping a copy safe.
Educational Conferences, Courses and Workshops:
Automatically approved are:-
- Training programme course components completed beyond compulsory requirements
- Goodfellow Unit courses
- Clinic CME Courses
- Hospital CME programmes
- The urgent care content of approved conferences.
Research
Original research or journal review conducted for the purpose of publication.
Teaching
Urgent care teaching and any ancillary work before or after the teaching session.
Supervising or mentoring
Organised mentoring or supervision, such as supervisor / registrar meetings, but excludes day-to-day conferring on patient care.
Self-directed learning programmes
RNZCUC approved online providers include www.emedicine.com, http://www.emchattanooga.com/emergency-medicine-podcasts and ‘emrap’; please let RNZCUC know if you would like another provider to be considered.
Journal or article reading
Reading academic articles or texts related to urgent care for personal development, preparation for presentations or lectures to peers or students.
Assessor/reviewer for MCNZ or similar
Includes assessments of other doctors performed for the MCNZ, RNZCUC, HDC or like bodies.
Clinical Audit development or review
Includes preparation or review of a clinical audit such as a formal audit for RNZCUC or for the Medical Council of New Zealand.
Clinical and Committee Meetings
This includes clinical and committee meeting time relevant to urgent care and having an educational content, such as developing management guidelines or educational policy in urgent care.
