✨ Medical Marvel
For patients presenting with lymphadenopathy, is it worth considering asking about a patient’s alcohol consumption and effect ❓
- Classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL); Presentation, Evaluation and Diagnosis in Adults:
- Alcohol-associated pain
- Although rare, patients with cHL can complain of severe pain following alcohol ingestion.
- The pain typically begins within minutes of ingestion of even small amounts of alcohol.
- Pain usually occurs at sites of bony involvement, but it may also occur at sites of lymphadenopathy.
- While alcohol-associated pain is uncommon (<10 percent) and has no prognostic significance, it is highly specific for cHL.
- The mechanism of alcohol-associated pain is unknown.
