About Emergency Consult
Emergency Consult provides urgent healthcare 24/7 through telehealth, connecting patients with experienced clinicians wherever they are.
Every day, we support patients in a wide variety of settings across Aotearoa – including emergency departments, urgent care clinics, ambulances and patients’ own homes.
Telehealth isn’t the answer to every challenge facing our health system, but it is a powerful tool that can help patients access the right clinical expertise when and where they need it.
For us, that means helping reduce pressure on busy services and improving access to care, particularly for patients in rural and regional communities.
About the role
As an Urgent Care Doctor with Emergency Consult, you will:
- Conduct urgent clinical assessments via telehealth
- Manage a broad range of urgent and acute presentations within your scope of practice
- Work with patients located in emergency departments, urgent care clinics, ambulances and their own homes
- Work collaboratively with nurses, paramedics and other healthcare professionals at the patient’s location
- Make appropriate clinical decisions about treatment, escalation, referral and follow-up
- Provide safe, patient-centred care using telehealth
- Contribute to improving healthcare access for patients across Aotearoa
No two consultations are necessarily the same – and that’s part of what makes this role interesting.
What we’re looking for
You will be:
- Vocationally registered as an Urgent Care Doctor in New Zealand
- Experienced and confident in managing urgent and acute presentations
- Ideally have had experience in an Emergency Department environment
- Comfortable assessing and managing patients via telehealth
- Able to make sound clinical decisions without always having the patient physically in front of you
- A strong communicator who can work effectively with patients and clinicians remotely
- Comfortable working across a wide variety of clinical environments
- Committed to equitable, culturally safe and patient-centred healthcare
An understanding of telehealth is important, but you don’t need to have spent your career working online. We can support clinicians who have the right clinical skills and mindset to work effectively in this environment.
