Napier Urgent Care (formerly City Medical), a trusted provider of urgent and after-hours care for over 25 years, is seeking a Medical Director to join our team.

Our mission is to provide accessible, quality urgent and after-hours health care to our community. We’re looking for a passionate leader to guide clinical excellence, support our highly skilled team, and strengthen our commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of our community. Each year, we deliver urgent and after-hours care to more than 36,000 patients, spanning a broad range of clinical complexity and acuity.

This role is a key part of our Senior Management team, with support from our Clinical Governance Committee.


The Opportunity

As Medical Director, you will:

  • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team.
  • Drive clinical excellence and innovation.
  • Partner with the Board, GM, and Senior Management to deliver strategic goals.
  • Provide hands-on clinical leadership in a busy urgent care center.
  • Champion high-quality, patient-centered, innovative, and culturally responsive models of care.

This is a full-time role (1 FTE), based in Napier, with some after-hours requirements.


About You

You’ll bring clinical credibility, proven leadership, and a commitment to advancing urgent care. Specifically, you will be:

  • An experienced and respected clinician with strong leadership capabilities.
  • A holder of a current MCNZ Practising Certificate, legally able to practice in NZ.
  • Committed to high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care.
  • Experienced in management and clinical governance.
  • Ideally a current or pending Fellow of the RNZCUC (preferred but not essential).
