Our official journal the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine has a new editor, Dr Joshua Russell, FAAEM, FACEP. You may know Joshua from UC-RAP, Hippo Education, and @ucpracticetips.

He’s looking for original research to help JUCM achieve PubMed citation status.

Original research JUCM will accept include:

  • Studies of clinical outcomes
  • Case reports
  • Case series studies
  • Retrospective chart reviews
  • Studies of urgent care usage, referral rate and  place in the healthcare system

JUCM offers full editorial support to tidy up submissions.

If you have any original research for publication, please contact Joshua., who has sent us the short email below as a way of introduction:

“Dear urgent care colleagues,

I have recently taken over the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine (JUCM). The journal is the only peer-reviewed journal in UC in the US and we publish monthly with an online and print readership >30,000.

My current priority is to publish original research and I wanted to invite you and/or any interested colleagues to submit any original research not published elsewhere for peer review and publication in our journal. Given that UC in NZ is rather well developed and efficient, it would be of benefit to a predominantly US audience to learn from your experiences as we strive for specialty recognition here.

Urgent care is still a relatively new field in the U.S. and original research remains sparse, however, because of the growing number of patients receiving care in UC centers now, there is a pressing need for an academic transformation in this field.  We can offer a streamlined process from submission to peer-review to publication compared to larger journals because of the limited amount of original research conducted in UC centers.

This would be an excellent opportunity to publish smaller studies, pilot studies, quality improvement projects and/or work done in collaboration with trainees. We are not currently indexed on PubMed, however, we will be applying in early 2021 and research contributions such as yours will be instrumental in this process.

I hope that you will consider submitting any such work to our journal.  Instructions on submitting can be found here: https://www.jucm.com/submit-an-article/

Thank you for your time and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.”
