Tēnā koutou. Please see some important updates, particularly around the Leadership Module requirement for trainees and a reminder on case review requirements. We hope those who attended the Skills and Demonstration and Assessment Weekend enjoyed themselves and found it useful. We also hope to see you all virtually at the upcoming Bootcamp on 13th September! Finally, good luck to those who have started studying for the UCPEX and OSCE.
Original Research:
As per the notice in the education committee report last month, there will be an original research option for trainees wishing to pursue original research instead of the Research Methods university paper. The Education Committee is in the process of finalising the criteria required for original research projects to qualify for an exemption to the Research Methods paper. This criterion will be released in the coming months, and the website will be updated accordingly. As a reminder, please consider registering with the Urgent Care Research Network if you have an interest in research and/or are planning on pursuing the Original Research option.
Skills and Demonstration and Assessment Weekend 2025:
The Skills, Demonstration, and Assessment Weekend (SDAW) was held on August 16 and 17. Thank you to all the trainees for their attendance and engagement in the teaching sessions, particularly to those whose sessions were being filmed. A big thank you to the trainees who agreed to be in the videos! Ngā mihi. We hope you found the sessions helpful, particularly for those who are planning to sit the OSCE this year.
Leadership Module Requirement:
As stated in previous newsletters and this month’s newsletter (e.g., DCT update May 2025 and DCT update September 2025), the leadership module is now live. It is compulsory for those completing the training programme after November, so keep it on your radar. It is for senior registrars who have passed UCPEX and are near Fellowship. Given the delays in releasing this module, it will be compulsory for all trainees (both pre- and post-2025 training programmes) from 30 October 2025, and must be completed before Fellowship. The module is on TalentLMS. If you have not completed all your Fellowship requirements (including the pre-exit SAF) before 30 October 2025, you will be required to complete the Leadership Module to be eligible for your exit interview.
Urgent Care Course Feedback:
As stated previously, the Urgent Care Course is now locked for any edits, except for broken website links. If you wish to provide feedback, you can still email uc.course.correction@rnzcuc.org.nz (please specify what speciality and which topic the feedback relates to). Please note that these will not be actioned until after UCPEX/OSCE in November.
Pre-2025 Training Programme – Case Reviews:
For the pre-2025 trainees who have yet to complete their case reviews, please ensure you read the instructions carefully before writing and submitting your case review. As a reminder, the case description should be in a format similar to clinical notes (while ensuring NO identifying information is included). The discussion should follow an academic writing style. This includes ensuring that references are appropriate and relevant to your points raised. The instructions contain several examples of the format and depth of discussion required.
Ngā mihi,
Adrianne Pimentel – Convenor of Education Committee
