Tēnā koutou,

We hope you had a restful and enjoyable holiday period, and our thoughts are with those affected by the severe weather in parts of Aotearoa at the moment. Just a  few important reminders and links below.

Urgent Care Course on TalentLMS

We have been working through a number of feedback items received for suggested improvements and corrections for a range of topics in the Urgent Care Course. As you are aware, we did not make any changes to the UCC from September to November to avoid disruption to trainees studying for UCPEX. After the exams, several changes have been made to the UCC based on the feedback received. Please see the list of changes to date on the new TalentLMS course: Urgent Care Course Corrections. You will need to login to TalentLMS first, and then re-click the link.

We would strongly encourage you to bookmark the Urgent Care Course Corrections course on TalentLMS to check it at least twice a year to ensure you are up to date with changes made to the UCC, particularly those intending to sit UCPEX, as the most updated UCC content will be examinable.

TP2025 (Post 2024 Training Programme) Progression Through Training Phases

A new subcommittee, the Progress and Compliance Committee, has been established to oversee trainees’ progression through TP2025. Please note that trainees will be contacted directly when they are eligible to progress from one stage to the next (e.g. basic to advanced phase) once they have completed the requirements in each stage (see table on this page for a list of requirements at each stage).

If you think you may have completed all the requirements in your stage of training and are eligible to progress, but have not heard from the Training Programme Coordinator within a few weeks, please contact the TPC. The TPC will check your eligibility and advise if you can progress to the next training phase.

Workplace-Based Assessments

Please note that the WBA forms will be undergoing revision and changes in the coming months based on feedback received from trainees and supervisors. This should not affect forms completed to date, so please continue to do WBAs as the opportunity arises – you will NOT be expected to repeat WBAs on the new form once the new WBA forms are released if you have already completed the relevant WBA on the old form to a sufficient standard

A few reminders about the WBAs:

  • DOPS requires a different form from the Core Skills form. You can choose to sign off both the DOPS and the associated core skill at the same time, but you MUST have the DOPS procedure observed for it to be signed off as a DOPS. Both the DOPS and the Core Skills forms must then be completed, as the DOPS has a different form from the Core Skills form. All forms should be on your TalentLMS Core Skills module.  The DOPs form can be found here.
  • All your DOPS and Mini-CEX must be observed in entirety by your assessor and be done on real patients with their consent.
  • Please upload your completed WBA forms to UCCIS (under additional CPD) AND email the Training Programme Coordinator, Alex, when you have completed and uploaded your forms. This is required to ensure we can track your progress through the training programme and will help ensure we can promptly contact you when you are eligible to advance to the next training phase.

POPLHLTH701

As some of you may be aware, the University of Auckland is holding the POPLHLTH701 Research methods over only one semester this year. For those of you who are not enrolled for POPLHLTH701 this year and still wish to complete your research methods paper requirement, the University of Otago AVME785 is an acceptable alternative. Please see the University of Otago link for details on how to enrol and the paper requirements/times.

Ngā mihi,

Adrianne Pimentel – Convenor of the Education Committee
