Kia ora koutou,

It is my pleasure to produce this month’s DCT newsletter. I’m going to cover off some important items for registrars – please read and take action where necessary.

University Papers

A reminder firstly we’ve noted that University of Auckland have limited access to some university papers. POPHLTH709 was cancelled for semester 2 2024. PAEDS714 filled up quickly.  It is important to plan your university papers early and to apply as soon as they are open. Use the University of Auckland applications portal. Keep an eye on opening and closing dates and POPHLTH701 semester one will be an important and filling up fast paper.

The College is monitoring the situation, and would like to know directly if you experience any difficulties in applying for your chosen paper. Please let me know if this is the case.

We have also been notified that there may be places available for PCUS training via the Otago PGCPU as the optional paper. Postgraduate Certificate in Clinician-Performed Ultrasound (PGCertCPU), Qualifications | University of Otago although the optional paper would only be GENA 717 or GENA 718 not both.

UCCIS

Maintaining your UCCIS profile so that is up to date is important.

  • We need to know your current training workplace, so please ensure this is entered in UCCIS. It should appear as one of the drop-down clinic names. If not try variations of the name and if it still does not appear let us know.
  • When you change workplaces you may need to change supervisor. You will need a new agreement and a (small) handover from the old supervisor to the new one. The supervisor agreement needs to be sent to the office.
  • If you have any supervision that is less than 6 hrs per week you must have notified us and asked for permission for delegated supervision.

Changes to the training programme that will affect current registrars

The College is currently updating its curriculum with revised graduate outcomes. The graduate outcomes detail the graduate profiles and attributes, including knowledge, skills and values, expected of a graduate from the RNZCUC vocational training programme. They are based on the 7 domains (roles) of the CanMEDS physician competency framework.

From 2025, the College will be running 2 training programmes in parallel. These will be the training programme for current registrars who have joined before 2025, and a new training programme for those who start the training programme after 1 January 2025.

There are several minor changes which will affect current registrars. Please see this page on the website for more information. We will be communicating this by email to registrars and supervisors, and the office team will be able to answer questsions (or if not, we can find the answers for you).
