Kia ora koutou,
It is my pleasure to produce this month’s DCT newsletter.
Training program 2025.
As you may be aware there are changes for registrars starting after 2025. You will be completing work based assessments and transitioning through the stages of training. For registrars on the prior training program there are no work based assessments and the case reviews continue to be a requirement. The first orientation webinar for 2025 registrars is at 10 am on 4 April. I hope you have received an invite. Contact Alex if you have not.
Core skills list update.
A reminder that those of you working on the 38 pre 2025 skills had to have loaded them to UCCIS by 31 January 25. If not you need to complete 2 new skills Pulled Elbow and Foetal doppler. These can be sent to you via Alex if you need copies of the new skills. For the 2025 registrars there will be 42 skills available soon.
A reminder about notes audit or clinical note audit
All new registrars are required to submit a notes audit to the college. Then every 3 years until fellowship.
Clinical Notes Audit – Royal New Zealand College of Urgent Care
You must always carefully read the instructions listed on link above. You can directly load these to UCCIS. But remember you must notify Alex when you do so as UCCIS cannot yet tell us that this has been done. Remember it is advised to send triage notes with your notes to complete the notes. Registrars still fail to follow the very simple instructions which can result in a notes audit fail.
Supervision
A reminder that supervision is the most important part of training. All supervisors must be approved by the RNZCUC. When you have your first supervisor or when you change supervisors you must get a signed supervision agreement, send it to the college and upload it to UCCIS. If the supervisor is not approved they may need to go through the approvals process. If you have no approved supervisor your training may not count. You must notify us immediately if you intend or do change your supervisor.
PALS courses
From this point onwards we currently have no ongoing University of Auckland PALS courses scheduled. The main provider ongoing will be resuscitation skills. PALS/APLS – Royal New Zealand College of Urgent Care you can contact them directly Resuscitation Skills PALS course (We have a discount code; contact alex@rnzcuc.org.nz) if you are health workforce NZ funded you will be reimbursed up to the agreed amount.
Pre -Exit SAF.- Reminder from last newsletter.
Until the leadership module has been finalised and completed all registrars and supervisors will need to complete a new pre exit SAF. This applies when they have or are near completed all the elements of training and signifies that they are ready for fellowship. These forms are available from Alex and needs to be signed as usual by the supervisor and senior registrar. There will be 6 month grace period where the Pre Exit SAF will be used until the leadership module becomes compulsory.

The deadline has passed for submitting an outline for the MLP. Thus if you have not had your outline accepted before this deadline you will not be able to complete this and must follow the directions on our web pages. Research Methods in Health – Royal New Zealand College of Urgent Care

Registrar sub committee- Reminder from last newsletter.
It has come to our attention that there are still some registrars not aware of the registrar sub committee. Email: regsc@rnzcuc.org.nz or subcommittee members generally reach out semi-regularly on FB page or via monthly College newsletter email.
Urgent care course updates- Reminder from last newsletter.
We are in the process of moving the urgent care course from the Goodfellow Unit website to our own learning management system. We anticipate that the material will be available for viewing in February 2025, hopefully end of March 2025. We will advise all members and Educational subscription holders when it becomes available. There may be a period of time when it is unavailable. The module Red Rash Made easy is from the goodfellow unit themselves and so to continue to view this you will need to either create a goodfellow account or continue your existing account.
