Kia ora koutou,
It is my pleasure to produce this month’s DCT newsletter. This month I am providing some reminders of important changes to requirements for all those on the training programme.
For all trainees
- We have moved most learning resources across to TalentLMS, the new learning platform. We have created accounts for you all and you should look for the email from Alex about TalentLMS, access the platform as soon as possible, and review the look and feel of the platform. In time, ALL learning resources (including those for Fellows) will move to TalentLMS.
- Links to external courses (Red Rash, Communications videos, Cultural Competency Course, Lightbox radiology, ECGWeekly) are in a TalentLMS course called “External resources”. We have marked which are required as compulsory activities (unless you have an exemption for this, though we would still recommend reviewing what we provide as part of the training programme).
- Ensure that you record all activity in your UCCIS TPS, including uploading documentation and recording any self-reflection insights that you have made while completing the activity. We use UCCIS to check on your progress and have to chase you if information is not readily available to us. This adds a significant amount of work for us, so please help us by loading everything promptly.
- The new Core skills lists and resources (documents) can be found in TalentLMS. Supporting videos remain on the website (you will need to be logged into the website) until we have additional staffing resources to allow us to move the videos to TalentLMS.
For those on the pre-2025 training programme
- The deadline has passed for submitting an outline for the MLP. Thus if you have not had your outline accepted before this deadline you will not be able to complete this and must follow the directions on our web pages. Research Methods in Health – Royal New Zealand College of Urgent Care. If you were given permission to continue, your final version must be submitted by 30 June 2025.
- You are not required to complete WBA.
- The core skills have been updated. If you had not completed all 38 pre 2025 skills and loaded them to UCCIS by 31 January 2025 you will need to complete two additional core skills – Pulled Elbow and Foetal doppler. Any core skills that you have not loaded to UCCIS should be the new version of that skill (some have changed).
- You need to complete 40 of the 42 listed core skills. You do not need to complete TMJ relocation or Facial nerve blocks (#41 and #42 in the summary table).
- Prior to exit from the training programme, registrars and supervisors will need to complete a pre-exit SAF. This applies when they have or are near completed all the elements of training and signifies that they are ready for Fellowship. These forms are available from Alex and needs to be signed as usual by the supervisor and senior registrar.
- Senior registrars may proceed to exit by completing the pre-exit SAF for a period of six months after we announce the availability of the leadership course. After that time, all senior registrars will be required to complete the leadership course.
For those on the 2025 training programme (TP25).
- The new training programme (TP) structure is available on the website.
- The TP is split into phases of training (basic, advanced, pre-Fellowship).
- You will be completing Workplace Based Assessments (WBA).
- WBA information can be found on the website.
- The WBA include DOPS, with the content of that particular DOPS shown as a core skill (as pre-TP25 trainees need to complete them as a core skill, not a DOPS).
- A guide for those completing the WBA assessments can be found on the website and in TalentLMS.
- TP25 trainees have 42 core skills to complete.
- There are basic phase WBA, DOPS, and core skills requirements.
- CEX
- Paediatric fever
- Abdominal pain
- Chest pain
- Orthopaedic case
- DOPS
- Local anaesthetic, including ring blocks
- Suturing including wound debridement
- Core Skills
- All examination and investigation skills
- CEX
As always, we understand that with all these changes you may need to ask questions to clarify your understanding. Please feel free to reach out to me (dct@rnzcuc.org.nz) or Alex (tpc@rnzcuc.org.nz), or alternatively discuss the requirements in peer group meetings and/or with members of the registrar subcommittee (regsc@rnzcuc.org.nz).
Ngā mihi
