Kia ora koutou,
As we move through the year, it’s clear that there is no let up in our workload. This update covers a range of key areas, from necessary revisions to our College rules and the upcoming Strategy 2030, to the launch of the workforce survey for the year, and advancements in our internal operations. Please take a moment to read through the details below, and we look forward to your continued engagement.
Advanced warning of a special general meeting – December 2025
We will be asking you to approve updated Society rules at a special general meeting to be held in early December. This is because:
- The Societies Act 2022 requires all societies to resubmit their constitutions, and required content has changed.
- We are revising the Society’s stated purposes to include statements to support Māori health equity.
- There may be small changes as a result of the implementation of the governance review recommendations.
- There have been changes previously approved by members and Executive Committee:
- Award of Distinguished Fellow status
- Agreement to allow Fellows no longer practising medicine to use the post nominal “FRNZCUC (retired)”
- Full voting and committee membership rights are for full members who are registered to practise medicine in New Zealand.
Additionally we will have completed the Strategy 2030 (covering 2025 to 2030) which should be endorsed by members.
I had previously mentioned that this would be at Bootcamp2025 but we have now moved this to early December. There is still much work to be done on the rules and strategy, and I we will consult with members as we continue this work in the coming months. I hope to be able to find a slot at, or as an adjunct to, Bootcamp to explain how these are being developed.
College workforce survey
We will share the College’s workforce survey with you in the next two weeks. The survey results provide extremely valuable information to members and clinics about remuneration and conditions for the urgent care workforce. They provide the College with information on how your workplaces contribute to helping you maintain your well-being and professional development. I ask that you take time to complete it when it comes out.
Policies approved and published
Several policies have been approved:
- Supervision policy
- Assessment of International Graduates
- Accelerated Pathway to Fellowship
- Collegial Practice Visit
Several policies are currently being reviewed. Please feel free to provide comments to me (ceo@rnzcuc.org.nz).
- Appeals policy (available for comment but requiring further work by the Education Committee).
- Approved Supervisor policy (ready for final review and tidy up – seeking member input into main content).
- Examinations and Assessment policy (not available for member review at this stage)
Internal operations – Operations Manager
I am pleased that our operations manager is now in post and starting to learn the ropes. As mentioned previously, there are a raft of projects and initiatives that I put on hold that can now be attended to. Many of these tasks relate to our provision of information, especially TalentLMS and the website, and I hope to have this all significantly revamped by the end of the caledar year.
College history – seeking someone to help develop the history of the College
I am hoping that we can develop a record with the history of the College from its early days as AMPA through to now. I’m seeking someone who has an interest in developing this. Please contact me to discuss. I aim to have funding for this important and fun project, which will contribute significantly the College’s prestige.
