Kia ora koutou,
It is an incredibly demanding period for the College office, with a multitude of projects and initiatives underway at the same time.
- UCCISv2 launch (although successful, it has its teething problems)
- New governance stuctures, policies, and processes
- Preparation for the launch of Distinguished Fellow awards
- New IS to support governance
- Migration of all learning resources into TalentLMS
- Post AGM activities including new committees and preparing membership invoices for sending out
- A change in staff at the office (see my report)
- Our accreditation report from MCNZ (draft recieved with just a few actions)
- Urgent care standard rewrite project underway
- New training site accreditation requirements placed on us by MCNZ
- Planning and preparation of the Bootcamp and Fellowship ceremony, celebrating 25 years of the vocational scope.
We are currently working under significant pressure to deliver several major projects at once. While the workload is high, we are immensely proud of the progress being made. We are excited to see these new systems and initiatives settle in the near future, bringing long-term benefits to all our members.
Staffing Changes
We’re saddened to advise that we are saying farewell to Kushani, our College Administrator, Shawnee. She’s leaving the team on 24 April. We are immensely grateful for her contributions and wish her the very best in her next chapter. As Kushani moves on after two years of dedicated service, I encourage you to send her an email expressing your gratitude for her hard work and the significant support she has provided the College during her tenure.
On a brighter note, I am pleased to welcome Kevin, who joins us next week to step into the role previously held by Kushani. We are excited to welcome Kevin at what is a tumultuous time with so many changes happening.
UCCIS
The migration from UCCIS V1 to V2 has been largely successful. While we are experiencing some minor teething troubles, the office team and Synergia technical team are working diligently to resolve them. We have published a dedicated post outlining the latest changes and our responses to the feedback received thus far; please refer to that post for the most current updates.
Regarding the transition, we are aware that CPD plans or Training Programmes (TPs) may not appear exactly as they did in the old system. This was advised in the email we sent around, specifically mentioning that the clinical hours may not appear to “count” because the activity, recorded in version 1 of UCCIS, was not correctly associated to a clinic. Another challenge that I had not made you aware of is the complexity of changes required by the College; changes within the pre-2025 programme (TP24) especially. The new system and the mapping of requirements simply could not cope with the significant complexity, so I made several decisions that would simplify the interface allowing the staff the flexibility to match activities and requirements and waive others. Some of these corrections may not appear in your CPD plan or TPS until we review it for overall programme progress and compliance. Please be assured that the system has not “failed,” and no member’s training progress or compliance will be adversely affected by these temporary display issues.
While we appreciate your engagement, the team is currently under significant pressure. In light of this, we would ask for your patience and request that you refrain from sending terse or robust emails regarding the migration.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Our AGM concluded successfully (there is a short report on the AGM in this post), though notably again we had to adjourn the first AGM as we had not achieved a quorum. We face a recurring challenge in achieving a quorum due to a lack of initial votes. I must ask all members to please pay close attention to AGM communications and cast your votes promptly. This ensures we can conduct College business efficiently without the need for adjournments and repeated sessions.
Distinguished Fellows
I am very please to advise that the Board of Censors is in the final stages of formalising the Distinguished Fellow policy. Very soon we will invite Fellows to nominate peers who have made an extraordinary contribution to RNZCUC or the wider urgent care sector over the last quarter-century. We aim to award the inaugural Distinguished Fellowships at this year’s Fellowship Ceremony on 19 September at the Novotel Ellerslie. It feels very appropriate to be awarding our first Distinguished Fellowships at this significant milestone, marking 25 years of the vocational scope in New Zealand.
TalentLMS and Learning Resources
Work continues at pace to finalise the migration of courses and materials into TalentLMS. Once this transition is complete, we will remove these resources from the main website. This move is designed to streamline your experience, meaning you will no longer need to log into the website separately for educational content. Please note that certain resources, specifically those related to well-being and cultural safety, will remain on the public website to ensure they stay accessible to the wider community.
Nāku iti noa, nā
