The Education Committee remains committed to ensuring a quality training programme for Urgent Care. As most of you are aware, we are in a transition period where two training programmes are being run concurrently, for those due to start training in 2025 on the new programme, and all the current registrars who remain on the old/current programme. We thank you for your understanding as we transition and your patient as we navigate some significant changes. The College is continuing to try and make this transition as smooth as possible for all trainees and if you are experiencing any difficulties or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office as soon as possible.

The Orientation webinars for new trainees continue to be a success. The last webinar on 11 October 2024 provided a useful chance to ask questions from myself, our DCT Dr David Sorrell, the convenor of the registrar subcommittee Dr Palm Kamolpanus and our administration staff Alex and Kushani, as well as to meet other trainees starting at the same time. Thank you to the attendees who completed the orientation webinar survey as it provides us with important information to ensure the webinars remain useful and relevant.

The next webinar is tentatively scheduled for March 2025 (TBC) – contact the Training Programme Co-ordinator if you would like to attend.

A few important reminders:

  • The online urgent care course (UCC) will be unavailable from mid November 2024 (after UCPEX) while it is being updated and moved to a new learning platform/website. We will update you as soon as it is available.
  • The Medical Literature Project (MLP) is being removed from the training programme, effective 31 December 2024. If current registrars wish to do the MLP, they must have the outline submitted by 31 December 2024 and the entire MLP completed by 30 June 2025 or they will have to complete the research methods paper (POPLHLTH701) or conduct an original research project (not a literature review or case study). See the Research Methods in Health
  • There are changes to the Core Skills list for current registrars, unless they can complete and submit into UCCIS all the current/original core skills before 31 January 2025 in which case they will be exempt from the new/changed Core Skills. See the Changes affecting current registrars
  • The final supervisor appraisal form for registrars to complete their Fellowship has been amended to include Leadership and Advocacy Domains until the new Leadership Module is introduced into the UCC in 2025. As you approach the exit interview, please ensure you complete the correct form.

Finally, having taken over as the new convenor for the Education Committee, I would like to say on behalf of myself and the Education Committee, a massive thanks to Dr Ainsley Goodman for her tireless work not only for the Education Committee, but for the wider College. It is with great sadness but also gratitude that we say haere rā to Ainsley for her many years and extensive contributions. We wish her all the best. Ngā mihi nui ki a koe.

Adrianne Pimentel
Convenor of Education Committee
