Kia ora koutou,

This email is to update you on the processes the Ministry of Health has put in place to verify that general practices and urgent care clinics have met the requirement for fit testing P2/N95 particulate respirators, prior to being able to utilise these masks in general practice and urgent care clinic settings.

We have developed a Declaration form for general practices and urgent care clinics to complete so they can receive P2/N95 particulate respirators from the Ministry’s PPE Central Supply. The Declaration form needs to be authorised by the Owner/Director/Manager/Clinical Lead on behalf of the organisation and only needs to be completed once. The form asks each general practice and urgent care clinic to declare that:
  • fit testing to suitable models of P2/N95 particulate respirators has been undertaken for staff
  • fit testing will continue to be undertaken in accordance with the AS/NZS 1715:2009 standard for fit testing
  • fit testing will be undertaken for any new staff before P2/N95 particulate respirator masks are utilised in your place of business.
Please complete and return the signed Declaration form to the Ministry of Health COVID Supply Chain email: COVID.HealthSupplyChain@health.govt.nz

We’ve also issued communications to PHOs regarding options for fit testing, and informing them that we have purchased 20 PortaCount machines for quantitative fit testing. The PortaCount machines have been made available to DHBs and we’ve suggested that the PHOs engage with their local DHB to maximise the use of these.

If you have any questions about PPE contingency stock or about your PPE requirements, please don’t hesitate to contact us at COVID.HealthSupplyChain@health.govt.nz

Thank you again for the work you undertake in the Health and Disability System.
